List of Funds

GENERAL FUNDS

These funds are an easy choice for donors who want to support local causes but wish to leave their selection and grant conditions to the Trust’s Distribution Committee.

Mount Dora Community Trust General Fund - Disbursements from the general fund are made at the discretion of the Distribution Committee and designated for educational, charitable or benevolent purposes within the Mount Dora area.

Robert Morton Endowment Fund - This fund was established as a memorial to Robert Morton, who was active in Mount Dora civic affairs and a long-time supporter of Mount Dora Community Trust.

FIELD OF INTEREST FUNDS

This group of funds is ideal for donors passionate about specific issues, such as education, healthcare, the arts, religious instruction or any other that may be important to the community.

Hagerty Swim Trust - This trust was established to provide funds for the support of competitive swimming for youth in the Mount Dora area.

Frank Brown Youth Fund - Established by Frank Brown to provide funds for projects that benefit Mount Dora youth ages of 8 - 18.

Liveright Endowment for the Performing Arts - This endowment will assist and promote live performances of the performing arts (preferably classical and/or church music) sponsored or produced by non-profit and/or religious organizations headquartered within the city limits of Mount Dora.

DESIGNATED BENEFICIARY FUNDS

This fund group is perfect for donors who want to benefit particular groups or organizations dear to them.

Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce Depot Restoration - The Chamber initiated this fund to provide a repository for gifts and bequests for restoration of the historic Atlantic Coast Line Depot in Mount Dora.

Martensen, Reid and Gardner Memorial Fund - In honor of Leon C. Martensen, Rena M. Reid, and Helen F. Gardner, this endowment fund was established by Ms. Reid in her estate planning to provide for recreational facilities in east Mount Dora.

Medical Emergency Fund - The fund was established to assist with the extreme medical needs of specific recipients designated by donors. Current beneficiaries are Andrea and Philip Champlain.

Northeast Black History Committee, Mount Dora, Inc. - Contributions and gifts are received to assist the Black History Committee in restoring the Witherspoon Building located on Clayton Street in Mount Dora.

Mount Dora Library Association Endowment Fund - Gifts and bequests to benefit Mount Dora's W. T. Bland Public Library.

Alice Edgar Memorial Fund - Established by Samuel W. Edgar in honor of his wife to provide benefit to Hospice of Lake & Sumter, Inc., Golden Triangle YMCA, Mount Dora Public Library, and the Congregational Church of Mount Dora.

Mount Dora Theatre Company Endowment Fund (ICEHOUSE) - Gifts and bequests benefit IceHouse Players, Inc., a theater company located in Mount Dora. The income earned from the contributions is used to support capital projects approved by the Theatre Board of Trustees. Contributions are not used to meet operating expenses.

Lighthouse Walk Endowment Fund - Established to provide for maintenance of the lighthouse area at Gilbert Park.

Charles Edgerton Memorial Fountain Endowment Fund - Established to provide income for the maintenance of the Charles Edgerton Memorial Fountain in Donnelly Park.

Mount Dora Sister Cities Endowment Funds I and II - Established by members of the Mount Dora Sister Cities Association to promote goodwill between Mount Dora and her Sister City of Forres, Scotland. The second fund was created by Donald McPeek to be used only for student travels to Sister Cities.

Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Fund - This fund was established to receive charitable gifts on behalf of the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club.

Carpenter House for Children Endowment Fund (Everyday Samaritan) – This fund was established to provide for contributions to build a home and ultimately provide for payment of real estate insurance and taxes on the new home.

Carpenter House General Fund - A repository for gifts to assist Pat and Linda Manfredi in providing care for needy children of all ages. The contributions assist with the everyday needs of the family of fourteen to sixteen. Cambridge Homes, a K. Hovnanian Company, was instrumental in creating interest from the community to assist Mr. and Mrs. Manfredi in their humanitarian efforts.

Susan Weinstock Memorial Scholarship - This scholarship was made possible by the family, friends and colleagues of Susan Weinstock, former art teacher at Mount Dora High School, who died of lung cancer in July 2002 at age 59. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior from Mount Dora High School who will be pursuing an art education degree following graduation from high school.

James and Thomas Dennis Junior Golf Fund - Established by the Dennis family in memory of James O. Dennis and his brother, Thomas Dennis, for the promotion of Junior Golf in Mount Dora. The Dennis family has continued to generously contribute monies annually to support the fund. The scholarship is awarded to a Mount Dora High School graduate with a "B" average or higher who has participated in the Junior Golf team. The LPGA Central Florida Golf Challenge holds a golf tournament annually at the Mount Dora Golf Association to support the fund.

Mount Dora Yacht Club - Depository for contributions made for the furtherance of sailing in the Mount Dora area.

Breast Disease Fund - Created by concerned women to assist those in financial need to receive mammograms or other medical assistance related to breast disease.

D.O.R.A. Dog, Inc. - Monies set aside to be used by the City of Mount Dora's Parks and Recreation Department for specific needs of the Mount Dora Dog Park.

Unity in the Community - The brainchild of Mickey Carroll, a songwriter and local resident. Mickey's dream is to bring various organizations and individuals in the community together to work on projects that enhance Mount Dora and the surrounding area. Past efforts have included disaster relief, children's needs, and most recently, the medical needs of the uninsured.

Debbie’s Doorstep - Established to empower abused or underprivileged women and children who have little or no support system, and provide them a stable living environment for a limited time. The program is designed to help such women learn to stand on their own. The organization is working in conjunction with The Haven of Lake and Sumter County, which identifies needy individuals for the program.

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

Scholarship funds are designated to help students cover expenses associated with all levels of education. Custom scholarships can be created to benefit specific students, schools, vocations or regions of Mount Dora.

The following scholarships' applications are available from the guidance counselors at Round Lake Elementary, Mount Dora High School and Christian Home and Bible School (unless another school is indicated). Please return the application to the guidance counselor who will then turn it into the community Trust Committee for review. The guidance counselors will act as your liaison.

Mary E. Beacom Memorial Fund - Mary Beacom, a nurse, provided funds to be used for charitable purposes following her death. To accomplish this, her Trustee established the memorial fund in her honor to provide scholarships for local high school graduates interested in healthcare careers, with preference given to those attending trade or technical schools.

Liz Perrett Scholarship Fund - Established by Mount Dora High School students in memory of Liz Perrett and supported by high school activities to provide one scholarship annually to a graduating senior.

Orval Hagerty Scholarship Fund - Provides college scholarships to graduates of Mount Dora High School and Christian Home and Bible School who require financial assistance to pursue a higher education. Scholarships may be renewed annually up to four years, provided the student maintains a job and satisfactory grade point average.

Joel J. See and Anna J. See Memorial Scholarship Fund - Established by Dr. and Mrs. See to provide financial assistance to Mount Dora High School and Christian Home and Bible School graduates who wish to pursue a medical career. Scholarships are renewable through four years of college for full-time students who continue to meet the scholarship qualifications.

Frank E. Brown Scholarship Funds - Provides scholarships to graduates of Umatilla High School and Christian Home and Bible School. Scholarships are renewable to qualifying students.

Round Lake Elementary School Scholarship Fund - The year 2008-09 saw the first recipients of these scholarships created by Round Lake Elementary to accept gifts to be utilized by Round Lake students for higher education.

Marcia Morgan Scholarship Fund - Provides scholarships to a Tavares High School graduate to attend an accredited college. The scholarship is in memory of Marcia Morgan.

Aileen Joiner Scholarship Fund - Ms. Joiner established a scholarship fund for post-high-school education at a Florida University. The scholarship is to be awarded to a senior of Mount Dora High School or Christian Home and Bible School and is renewable.

The following scholarship is available for Mt. Dora area high school graduates who have completed one year or more of undergraduate studies. This application is available through the Mt. Dora Community Trust:

Bland Scholarship - The W.T. Bland Junior Charitable Fund is a donor advised endowment fund for scholarships, especially in the second, third and fourth years of undergraduate study. Emphasis is also given to vocational training and community college education. A recipient may reapply, through undergraduate studies, as long as their attendance and Grade Point Average (GPA) are appropriate to their degree goals.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDS

Donor advised funds provide a flexible way to contribute assets over time and recommend grants for the local charities and causes you most want to support. While IRS regulations require the Trust’s governing body to maintain ultimate legal control over distributions, the Committee takes donor recommendations into consideration.

John Liptak, Jr. Basketball Scholarship Fund - This fund was established by family and friends of John Liptak, Jr. He was well known for his support of the basketball team at Mount Dora High School, where his son, John III, is a coach. The fund provides scholarships to Mount Dora High School students and is awarded for their second year of college.

The Williams Fund - Messrs. Steve, Marcus and Sam Williams initiated this fund primarily for education, youth activities and scouting. In year 2008, the fund supported the Florida FFA program.

Kelly Bodnaruk Scholarship Fund - Provides scholarships to a Mount Dora High School graduate in honor of Kelly Bodnaruk, who was killed in a car accident in 2004.

Marcia Morgan Cancer Fund - The fund was established to provide for needy individuals or families who are suffering with cancer.

PowerOne Technology Fund - Fund set up by PowerOne LLC, as a repository for gifts and bequests to encourage the study of and training in the field of technology. Scholarships and/or grants will be provided to students from Lake and Sumter County. An annual golf tournament has been set up to provide continued funding for the account.

Harold and Janet Esch Endowment Fund - Provides grants and/or scholarship funds to the Christian Home and Bible School home program.

Richard Earhart Rotary Scholarship Fund - Established as a memorial to Richard Earhart to provide scholarships to individuals selected by the Rotary Club of Mount Dora.

Mary Dunbar Rotary Scholarship Fund - A gift from Morris W. Dunbar in honor of his wife, establishing a scholarship fund for students interested in a career in nursing.

Lakes & Hills Garden Club - Established to provide scholarship funds for a student studying Horticulture, Landscaping, Natural Land and Chemical Sciences.
